How to use Cubeathon offline
Cubeathon guide · Reviewed October 2026
Cubeathon runs in your browser, but it doesn't need a connection to time solves. Once you've opened the timer online, it keeps working on a plane, at a competition venue with bad signal, or anywhere else, and saves every solve on your device.
Installing it to your home screen makes it open like an app, full screen.
Install Cubeathon
After a few solves on a phone, Cubeathon offers to install itself. How it works depends on the browser:
- Android (Chrome, Edge, Samsung Internet) — tap Install on the prompt.
- iPhone and iPad (Safari) — tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Other iOS browsers can't install web apps.
- Firefox on a phone — open Cubeathon in Chrome or Safari to install it.
- Computers — browsers that support installing web apps show an install option, usually in the address bar.
Installing is optional: the timer works offline in a normal browser tab too, once it has been opened online.
What works offline
- The timer, with inspection, penalties and your sessions. Every solve is saved on the device straight away.
- 3×3 scrambles, from the moment the app is set up. Other puzzles' scramble programs are saved the first time you use that puzzle online; until then the timer uses a built-in backup generator, so you always get a scramble.
- Pages you've already opened, from their saved copy. A page you haven't opened before takes you to the timer instead.
- A same-scramble Ao5 round you've already started: everything it needs came with the tap.
What needs a connection
- Signing in or creating an account.
- Uploading solves to your account, and seeing solves from your other devices.
- Creating a share link, or opening one someone sent you.
- Pages you've never opened on this device.
How solves catch up
Without an account, your solves simply live on the device. If you're signed in, each solve is saved on the device first and uploaded when the connection returns, without creating duplicates. Closing the tab or losing signal mid-upload doesn't lose a solve.
Keep a copy
A device's storage can still be cleared. Export a backup now and then, especially if you practise mostly offline without an account.
Before you go offline
- Open the timer once while online (and install it if you like).
- Switch to each puzzle you plan to practise, so its scrambles are saved. See practising different puzzles.
- Open any guide or algorithm page you want to read on the way.
