  1. Notation

    Reading moves

Every move on a live cube, then a quiz — 18 moves to fluency.

  2. Cross

    The first step

Intuitive, not memorised — plan it in inspection, solve it on the bottom.

  3. F2L

    First Two Layers

Build the first two layers at once, starting from four basic inserts.

  4. OLL

    Orientation of the Last Layer

The corner step of 2-look OLL: all seven cases.

69 cases, shuffled. Recognise each one from the diagram, say the algorithm, then check yourself. Misses come back until you have them.

Where these fit in a solve

CFOP — the method most speedcubers use — solves the cube in four steps: the cross on the bottom, the first two layers (F2L), then the last layer in two algorithms: OLL makes the top one colour and PLL puts its pieces in place. Each set below is a step up from the matching part of the beginner method.

  1. Step 1Cross
  2. Step 2F2L
  3. Step 3OLL
  4. Step 4PLL

Algorithms stick when you use them. Time full 3×3 solves and reach for a case the moment it appears.
