How Cubeathon generates scrambles
Scrambles come from cubing.js, an open-source cubing library, running in the background of your browser. Where it is practical the scramble is random-state: the generator picks a random position of the puzzle first and then finds a move sequence that reaches it, so every position is equally likely. That is how the 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, Pyraminx, Skewb and Square-1 are scrambled.
For the 5×5, 6×6, 7×7 and Megaminx there is no practical way to do that, so the scramble is a long sequence of random moves; the Clock gets a random number of hours on every dial move. Both follow the approach the WCA takes for those puzzles. These are WCA-style practice scrambles: official competitions generate theirs with the WCA's own program.
If the generator can't load (for example, offline before you've used a puzzle once), Cubeathon falls back to a simpler built-in generator for that puzzle, so you always get a usable scramble.

How to use a scramble
Start from solved
Hold a solved puzzle in the scramble's starting orientation. For cubes that is white on top and green in front.
Apply every move in order
Read left to right, slowly. Accuracy matters more than speed here.
Check the result
Compare with the preview, or replay the scramble move by move on a cube to find a missed turn.
Inspect, then solve
Open the timer on the same scramble, use the 15 seconds of inspection, and solve.
